What I've Been Up To....

Since December 24, 2009 I have

-paid for 10 office visits with my pediatrician
-paid for 9 rapid strep tests
-paid for 11 overnight strep tests
-paid for 6 prescriptions; 2 of which were over $100 each

and two of my kids still have strep. I have officially lost my sense of humor.

On second thought, there is a bright side...I am close to meeting my yearly deductible for health insurance in the first month of the new year.

Give Me One Good Reason

why I shouldn't put the dog out on the street...

He went into my closet, stole my favorite pair of Keens, and then proceeded to eat them.

Photobucket

This is my second pair of orange keens that he has eaten. A couple of years ago I ordered a pair online. The UPS man left them on my doorstep and he tore the box open and buried them to eat later. Luckily I found them and had the opportunity to wear them once before he took them out of the shoe basket and ate them down to their soles.

Photobucket

And you know, that I most certainly will be taking him to the vet when he has issues getting the material out of his body. (We've been there before!)

It's a good thing he's so cute!

Photobucket

Please note the huge bison bone we gave him for his birthday yesterday. Now that he is 5, you would think that he would be over chewing shoes!

Knuckleheads

Yesterday it was forty degrees and raining buckets. I looked out the window and this is what I saw...

Who Let The Dogs Out?

The kids had a party for the Ravens game last night. Everyone was decked out in their black and purple.

Photobucket

Even the dog.

We made shirley temples

and made them purple with grenadine and blue food coloring. After we finished, Ammy asked why we didn't just use grape soda. Duh, didn't even think of that!

Photobucket

We made buffalo sliders (and they were good!)

Photobucket

Old Bay chicken wings, Pioneer Woman's pico de gallo and guacamole and chips...it doesn't get any better than that for teenagers!

And football cupcakes to end the evening.

Too bad they didn't win.

She May Grow Up To Be A Writer

Ammy is always writing and she loves to write notes to people and leave them around the house for us to find (see here, here, here and here). This is her latest...

She forgot to mention that Kellen should get an "assist" fee for being the one to knock out the tooth.

Felt Garland

Photobucket

Back in December I came across a blog that showed how to make a felt garland for the holidays. (of course, now I can't find it for the life of me). Anyway, this is a great craft to do with the kids and can be finished in one sitting if you have a patient child or over several days if not)

We chose three different colors of felt to use for our garland...white, dark grey and dark green. We cut the felt into 4 inch squares--the squares do not need to be perfect.

Then we used dental floss to string the felt squares (This is a must because it is pretty stong and trust me, you don't want your garland to break...see below.)
Also, the cheaper felt is easier to push a needle through.

Photobucket

After you have finished the garland, add your embellishments. We used a Santa ornament from Michaels and gold bells. Simply use an ornament hanger to hang them from the dental floss between the squares of felt.

Photobucket

A close up view...

Photobucket

Big note to self: Make sure to tie your dental floss ends to something. I used washers for the ends of my garland. The washers made it easy to hang as well.

Photobucket

The first time I went to hang the garland and I was going to tie my ends to the nails on the wall. One end slipped off the nail and the end result was that every felt square came off the dental floss and ended up in a pile on the floor! I was not a happy camper!

Photobucket

This would be a great project to do for any holiday--just switch out the ornaments that you have hanging on the garland.

Happy Crafting!
