I have been a complete slacker on my Show Us Where You Live assignments so I am going to do my best to catch up. This past week, the assignment was to show master bedrooms. Welcome to mine. We have not done anything to this room since we moved in 6 years ago and it is in desparate need of a makeover.
We have a master suite with a small hallway, a bathroom, a sitting room and a bedroom. This is the view when you look in from the hallway. Straight ahead is the sitting room and to the right is the bathroom.
When you walk into the sitting room, you will see two closets to the right. These closets are mine. My husband has two closets that are actually in our bedroom.
On the wall to the right of the closets is a vintage mirror that used to be in Allie's room. I have always loved it so I hung it in my sitting area. It is perfect for hanging things on...I have my mardi gras beads (not sure what happened to my other strands) and a hat that my friend, Kelli Nemer, painted for a fundraiser that we did for United Cerebral Palsy. We did a benefit concert with Emmylou Harris and it was a black tie and blue jeans affair. We also painted these boots for the centerpieces. This is the view from my closets. The picture on the wall is a canvas print of a painting that Kelli (can you tell that I love her stuff?) made. The teddy bear is one that I was given when I was born. He was falling apart, so my mom fixed him up--he has a bandage to stop the leaking of his innards, a sweater and a beret. He is much cuter now that he ever was. The trunk is another piece that used to be in the twin's room. I love shabby, peeling pieces of furniture because the kids cannot ruin them. The chair is from my grandfather's house. He passed away a year ago at the age of 94. It needs to be recovered, but it reminds me of being at my grandparents' house growing up.
This is the view from my bedroom door. My husband's two closets are to the left as you enter. Straight ahead is a window that looks out into my back yard. The chair is usually covered with clothes that need to be put away. When we moved in the cornices were here. Instead of changing them, we picked the bedding around them.
It is time to change them!
This is the view from the window. You can see the bathroom to the right of the photo. That is as close to that bathroom as you are going to get as it is hideous! Really, really hideous.
This is the another shot from the back of the room. The furniture is old and not my style anymore. We bought it before we were married, 19 years ago. I loved it then, but it has lived a long life. There are remnants of a Sharpie masterpiece on the headboard. My older children used to leave murals all over the place. I wish I could find pictures of the mural that I found drawn on the wall above my bed when they were younger. Other furniture in their bedrooms have the alphabet drawn on them. You can see why I love furniture that cannot be destroyed!
The nightstands, dresser, mirror and bed all match in this room. This is a shot of my nightstand with all of the junk that is always on top of it. I obviously have a magazine, catalog and book problem!
Go here, to see other master bedrooms. Come back on Friday to see garages and yards. I can promise you that the only view of my garage will be from the outside!
