Life is Wuff

This was the sight last night right before I went to bed. Both the dog and the child slept through the flash! And yes, I know my dog needs a hair cut. It's on the list of things to do....

Maggie Update

Tomorrow Maggie is having surgery on her leg. When they x-rayed her this week the doctor found that her bones were overlapping and that if left to heal this way, one leg could be 1 - 2 inches shorter than the other. After consulting with several doctors, the decision was made to have a plate put in the leg against the femur to secure it. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow at 10 a.m. when she is scheduled to be operated on.

On another note, Maggie has loved getting mail. One day the mailman delivered an entire tub of letters and packages! She has learned lots about the states and many state abbreviations!! She has one fan, Betty the Cat, who has sent her postcards from all over the country!

To date Maggie has received mail from 36 states. The ones she has NOT received mail from are the following: WA, OR, UT, ND, SD, NE, OK, IA, MO, LA, AL, KY, IN, and NH. If you know anyone in these states, please ask them to send a post card or card. She has also received cards from Germany, Scotland, Belarus, and Mexico. This has been a terrific project and has really helped to pass the time. Thanks to everyone who has participated.

If you would like to send her a card, please address it to Maggie Heckman, 620 Myers Lane, Greensboro, NC 27408. If you would like to send an e-mail, please send it to kheckman@triad.rr.com and put Maggie in the subject line.

PRICELESS

I have always loved my kids' letters to Santa. This year is no exception...especially because I don't have to oversee the process anymore. Ammy and Kellen have been working diligently on their letters this weekend.

Here is Ammy with her list. It includes a real live monkey and an iPhone. What is she smoking?

This poor thing is setting herself up for disappointment in a big way. Poor girl doesn't even have a cell phone yet. She's certainly not getting an iPhone. Heck, I don't even have a decent phone...ever since I lost mine in a port-a-pot, I haven't chosen the best phones.

As for the monkey, we just won't go there.

This is Kellen's drawing that he did with a picture of "are house" The guy on top of the Christmas tree, that's the dude on the cross.

I think I have some work to do.

We've Got Game!

So, yesterday I went over to my friend, Lyndall's house to pick up an air hockey table that she no longer wanted. My kids love air hockey so I figured it would be worth the effort of moving it. HA! Three of us were able to get it in the car without too much trouble; however, it was extemely awkward and slightly heavy. I got it to my house and decided that the best bet of getting it in the house was to carry it down the steps to my basement door.

The only problem is that once the kids and I got it out of the car, we couldn't manuever the table down the steps. I decided to leave it until my husband got home and went out Christmas shopping. While I was out, it started to pour...Nothing like leaving something electrical outside in the rain. I had a child cover it with a tarp and then I called my BFF, Alden. She came over to help move it and this is as far as we got.

Once we got it down the steps we realized that we couldn't get it in the door. I left it outside overnight and decided to tackle the project today.

I took the table apart piece by piece. It took me over an hour and a half to get it to the point where we could move it in the house.
It took forever to get this one screw out.
Kellen played Guitar Hero while I worked! Nothing like a seven year old playing Highway to Hell by ACDC.

Finally, the table is in the door!

We've got game!

My Mom rocks. Now you'll have to excuse her-
she needs to go kick some butt in air hockey!

Maggie Update

I received the following e-mail from my friend, Kimberly.

We have gotten about 41 letters so far, from 20 states! It has taken at least 30 minutes to open, read and find the states on our map. We posted on the den wall low enough so Maggie can find the states. She frequently counts which states we have received the most from. Lots of times the letters share information about the states which Maggie has also really enjoyed.

States we have gotten mail from: CA. HI, CO. ID. IL. NC, SC ,Fl, KS, TX, MS, GA. VA. WV, MD, NJ, PA, MA. NY, MI. We have also received mail from Mexico.

Maggie's dog, Cooper, keeping her company!
Please keep sending mail. It really makes Maggie happy! E-mail me at sportzmom@comcast.net and I will send you her address.
