Maggie Update

Tomorrow Maggie is having surgery on her leg. When they x-rayed her this week the doctor found that her bones were overlapping and that if left to heal this way, one leg could be 1 - 2 inches shorter than the other. After consulting with several doctors, the decision was made to have a plate put in the leg against the femur to secure it. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow at 10 a.m. when she is scheduled to be operated on.

On another note, Maggie has loved getting mail. One day the mailman delivered an entire tub of letters and packages! She has learned lots about the states and many state abbreviations!! She has one fan, Betty the Cat, who has sent her postcards from all over the country!

To date Maggie has received mail from 36 states. The ones she has NOT received mail from are the following: WA, OR, UT, ND, SD, NE, OK, IA, MO, LA, AL, KY, IN, and NH. If you know anyone in these states, please ask them to send a post card or card. She has also received cards from Germany, Scotland, Belarus, and Mexico. This has been a terrific project and has really helped to pass the time. Thanks to everyone who has participated.

If you would like to send her a card, please address it to Maggie Heckman, 620 Myers Lane, Greensboro, NC 27408. If you would like to send an e-mail, please send it to kheckman@triad.rr.com and put Maggie in the subject line.

How did the operation go?

The operation went well. She is out of the body cast; however, she is in a lot of pain. Her mom will update me later today along with pics so I will post another update as soon as I get them.
